Niederösterreich is Austria's largest Qualitätswein-producing area. This designation stands for a big variety of different wine styles of international and indigenous grape varieties. There are eight specified winegrowing regions in Niederösterreich, reaching from the Wachau in the west to Carnuntum in the east. These can be divided into three major climatic zones: the Weinviertel in the north, the region along the Danube river, with its adjoining valleys to the west of Vienna, and the warmer Pannonian part in the southeast of Niederösterreich.
Loimer, Grüner Veltliner 2017
Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria and produces a dry white wine with savory aromas, spicy flavors, and good acidity. Young Grüner Veltliner is fresh-tasting with notes of green apple, lemon, radish, and arugula. Lighter styles of Grüner Veltliner are intended for immediate drinking, while more structured examples can age for many years. Grüner Veltliner’s bright acidity and savory character make it an ideal partner to mildly spiced Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese dishes. Fish and shellfish are accented by Grüner Veltliner’s citrus and mineral profile, while its acidity cuts the richness of pork or ham. It can also work well with foods that are difficult to pair such as bitter greens and asparagus.

Weingut Markus Huber, Traisental Grüner Veltliner Terrassen 2017
A creamy, green freshness on the nose is reminiscent of lemon, aloe vera balm and greengage. The palate is light, and has that same gentle but greenish freshness. This is light, smooth, dry and very refreshing. Medium green yellow; pure pepper on the nose; hinting at typical Grüner spiciness; aromatic herbs and yellow fruit; dense and complex on the palate; great promise for the future.
Goes best with fish e.g. with trout or salmon; also very good with spicy food; especially Asian cuisine.
