Intentional Wines, Naturally is this vineyards claim to delivering quality wines with a philosophy that the vines are as healthy as the entire ranch.
Quivira uses a systematic approach that ensures the health a vitality of the vineyards.
First, they focus on Biological Diversity by helping to restore the Wine Creek area which is now a healthy spawning location for Steelhead Trout and Coho Salmon. They have healthy beehives and animals including cows, chickens and pigs. There is a great garden on the property for the guest to enjoy.
The ranch attracts many wild animals, birds, insects that help to create a sustainable farm which ultimately results in a better wine.
The commitment doesn’t stop there. Quivira has a 55kw solar installation, and manages a half acre compost pile. With constant replenishing, the vineyards become healthier each year. Using the principles of Rudolph Steiner, the philosopher whose work was termed “spiritual science”, Steiner said “Thinking… is no less an organ of perception than the eye or ear. Just as the eye perceives colours and the ear sounds, so thinking perceives ideas”. By following the lunar calendar they are able to bring the right balance to the vineyard and harvest the best possible fruit.
My example of one of Quivira’s great wines is the Dry Creek Valley 2017 Sauvignon Blanc. The wine gets high marks from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator. It is a standout with clean aromas and flavors. The grapes are taken from the vine at full maturity. The wine has a bouquet of citrus, passion fruit, white peach, and different varietal grassy notes.
The Dry Creek Valley was made for Sauvignon Blanc and The Quivira Vineyard brings the best out of this region.
